CHEN Yu-An (*1982) is an award-winning Taiwanese Actress, known as the Male role(生角行當/ sheng) in the field of traditional Taiwanese Opera(歌子戲). She is the first generation receiving 8 years professional education for this traditional art genre ever since in the history of Taiwan(1994-2002). After graduated from National Taiwan College of Performing Arts(TCPA), she spend 5 years as a full-time teacher for Taiwanese opera education(2005-2010). She realized the crucial challenge to be a performer, therefore she resigned her job and joined into major theater companies of Taiwanese Opera.

From 2000 to 2025, she regularly performed for companies founded by Taiwanese opera celebrity artists and also her mentors, as TANG Mei-Yun(唐美雲), CHU Ya-Fen(許亞芬), LIAO Cyong-Jhih(廖瓊枝), CHEN Mei-Yun(陳美雲), GUO Chun-Mei(郭春美), LEE Ching-Fang(李靜芳), MIN HWA YUAN-The RI(明華園日字).  It was not until 2000, she began to perform as the leading role in the well-known and legendary group, the Holo Opera Theater Company(河洛歌子戲團).

In 2015, she was invited to Physical Sentimental Theatre Company of LeeQingZhao the private(李清照私人劇團感傷動作派), and launched her interdisciplinary artistic exploration.


Chen was often reviewed by critiques and presses with her talented wide range vocal,  stage presence and clear articulation.  She is the rare Male leads actress in her peers not only of traditional repertoires, but also in the filed for trans-cultural, interdisciplinary and international collaboration. More than 30 years of professional experience, participated in more than 100 works and more than 1,000 performances.

Besides stage, CHEN also performed for film and TV dramas. At the same time, she is also engaged in teaching, speaker and presenter.
